The Friends is a private, nonprofit organization that helps to support the New York State Military Museum in its efforts to tell the story of New York's rich military history and the service and sacrifices of its citizens from the colonial era to today.
The mission of Friends is to be a support to the museum, to aid in fund raising for exhibits and displays, as well as assisting in drawing attention to the museum through programs, lectures and events. As the board of trustees, we are the elected board which helps direct the membership to facilitate the support mission of the non profit group.
Docents
Upon arriving at the Military Museum, a guest first meets one of our docents. These guides are ready to acquaint you with the museum, serve as educators, and answer questions. If you are in need of assistance, look for one of our enthusiastic and knowledgeable docents.Retail Associates
While you are at the museum, make sure you stop by our museum store. Browse through our bookstore, or take home a piece of military history. Our retail associates will help you choose the perfect gift or item to add to your military collection.Research Library Volunteers
Our Research Library, at the military museum, is always looking for volunteers to help catalog, data base entry and transcription, plus general assistance for our research librarian. Your help can be from your home or at our research library. Please contact the Friends of the New York State Military Museum at (518) 226-0490 for further details.
